Old Orchard is a vibrant, progressive school located on extensive grounds in Blackburn North. Our focus in on the development of each individual student: academically, emotionally, socially and physically.

Our staff members are committed to ensuring that your child is provided with comprehensive educational experiences across all areas of the curriculum, with particular emphasis on Literacy and Numeracy.

Enrichment and remediation programs are in place to meet specific student needs and students with disabilities or impairments are extremely well supported by individualised programs and additional support, often provided by support staff.

Technology is used extensively in all classrooms, as a valuable resource to enhance student learning. We are committed to providing our students with modern technology hardware and software. Each classroom has a data panel with Apple TV, ipads and notebooks are used extensively throughout the school and a 1 to 1 iPad Program is in place for Years 3, 4, 5 & 6.

Music is offered at all levels within our Performing Arts Program which also includes choir, instrumental lessons and an annual school concert or musical production. Students are encouraged to perform musical and other items at weekly school assemblies and other formal occasions.

A specialised Visual Arts program is also provided for all students. Students' artwork is valued highly and many permanent and temporary displays adorn the school. Each year the Year 6 cohort prepares a special Art Project as a parting gift to the school and these projects are features of our school.

A comprehensive and extensive sport and physical education program operates from Prep to Year 6 with interschool competitions in a range of sports. Intensive swimming programs and numerous other activities and clinics are offered to all students.

A Perceptual Motor Program (PMP) is conducted in junior classes. In addition we offer an exciting Camping Program ranging from a Prep Breakfast to a 5 day camp in Year 6. These camps are memorable experiences and provide students with many invaluable opportunities to develop as young people.

Leadership and social skills are encouraged via:

  • Prep/Year 6 Buddy System


Before and After School Care and Vacation Care is provided at Old Orchard, known as Teamkids. The program also operates on Pupil Free Days and holidays, offering both structured and free choice activities. This program is run by Team Kids.

We believe strongly in the School-Home partnership where many opportunities are available for parents to become involved in their child's education. These include:
